Minimum three-month commitment

Practical training
that goes beyond identification

Most MW students are excellent tasters

The challenge is translating what is in the glass into the kind of structured, evidence-led answer required in the Practical examination.

MW Practical Lab focuses on that gap

The programme develops the skills behind strong Practical answers: selecting relevant evidence, reaching defensible conclusions, writing with confidence, managing uncertainty and continuing to pick up marks even when your identification is not completely correct.

What's Included?

Two Practical Labs every month for
7 months

Each Practical Lab includes:

Learn

An educational video from Christine explaining the concept, how to approach it and what you should be thinking about.

Apply

A focused Practical exercise involving answer construction, analysing evidence, comparing conclusions or working under time pressure.

Debrief

A video where Christine works through the exercise herself, sharing her own conclusions, how she would structure the answer, the evidence she would use and where marks may be gained or lost.

Monthly Live Practical Clinic

Once a month, members are invited to a live online Practical Clinic with Christine.

Each session lasts approximately one hour and builds on the themes covered in the programme.

Christine will also select a small number of submitted answers to review.

Can't attend live?

All clinics are recorded and available to current members.

Learn with other MW students

Members can opt into a small Practical group of approximately three to four students.

Use your group to:

  • exchange answers

  • compare approaches

  • discuss difficult calls

  • practise giving and receiving Practical feedback

  • stay accountable throughout the study year

A simple feedback framework is provided so discussion stays focused on evidence, logic, conclusions, clarity and marks.

What You'll Work On

Throughout the 7 month programme we will cover:

  • Variety and origin

  • Winemaking

  • Quality and maturity

  • Style and commercial positioning

  • Comparative questions

  • Evidence versus assertion

  • Building and defending conclusions

  • Funnelling

  • Writing confidently

  • Picking up marks when your identification is wrong
